Born and raised in Iran at the time of Iran-Iraq war, Golnar Shahyar is a singer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter based in Vienna. Already known as the lead singer of her bands Sormeh, Seharng, Gabbeh and lately Golnar & Mahan, she has been performing internationally since a few years and has had a chance to work with renowned musicians world wide. Her musical passion and repertoire covers a whole rang from jazz and world music, oriental and african folklore to contemporary and early music, a diversity which has become her unique sound and is performed with a touch of playfulness. In search of her own musical language she has been focusing on her solo program in which she performs her songs on the guitar. Her lyrics, now mostly in English, are mainly about human essence, emotions and complexities as well as social issues.
